Forrest "Phog" Allen coached college basketball for 49 seasons
and compiled an enviable 771-223 record. Most of his coaching was done
at the University of Kansas where he coached the Jayhawks to the 1923
Helms Foundation national championship and the 1952 NCAA national championship.
He coached the United States to a gold medal in the 1952 Olympic Games
in Helsinki, Finland. He received numerous honors-- the NABC and the Metropolitan
New York Basketball Writers National Coach of the Year in 1950 and the
Helms Foundation "Basketball Man of the Year" in 1952. Other coaching stints were at Baker University (record: 46-2), Haskell Institute (record: 27-5) and Warrensburg Teachers College (record: 107-7). He was enshrined into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 1959.
